the Fairmont Royal Pavilion Barbados is the Perfect Couples Getaway this Winter
Relaxed and calm - that is how I feel when on the grounds of the Fairmont Royal Pavilion on the stunning West Coast of Barbados. It is no surprise to me when I learn their motto is relaxed sophistication.
For beach people looking for an uncrowded, upscale vibe, this is your place.
My tour started with a visit to the Palm Terrace, the signature of three on site restaurants. Breakfast, lunch and are dinner here and it would be perfect venue for a romantic evening by the water. Did you know that you can dine at the resort without actually being a resident? This is a little known fact I was delighted to discover. I will definitely be making a sunset reservation for the next time I’m in Barbados. When you are staying at the Fairmont Royal Pavilion, booking with me ensures you a free breakfast for two here at Palm Terrace, something I know you’ll look forward to each and every morning.
Strolling on to the lawn we pass Lovers Paradise, a grassy area overlooking the water the setting for an intimate wedding of up to 12 people. It’s lush, bathed in sunlight and you can hear the waves as you walk. Thinking of a bespoke wedding during the winter in Barbados? I can arrange for your ceremony and reception at this beautiful property. Or I can coordinate offsite accommodations with your ceremony being held at Fairmont Royal Pavilion.
Guest rooms are found in two buildings on the property, north and south. They are within steps of one another and are identical. Following a massive interior renovation in late 2017 and a refresh again in 2023, all rooms are crisp, modern and well appointed. The decor was described to me as Nautical Chic, and I can see why. Decorated with art from a local artisan and sleek modern furniture, I immediately feel a sense of calm. These rooms are made for relaxation.
There are three room categories - Signature Oceanfront being the top floor (there are elevators and stairs), Beachfront Suites are on the ground floor, and Luxury Oceanfront on the second floor. All rooms have ocean views, and the sunset facing view in early evening. Everyone will be waking up and going to sleep with views of the water. Looking to save a little money? Opt for a Luxury room located on the second floor, it is identical to the Signature, just one floor below. Rooms on the second and top floors include one daily afternoon tea during your stay. Beachfront suites include daily high tea service and round trip airport transportation.
Want a little more space, and to be able to walk right out onto the beach from your suite? Pick a Beachfront Suite - the rooms are 150 square feet larger and have patios with sun loungers and an umbrella. They are most in demand, and at the highest price point. Beachfront Suites are also perfect for three adults traveling together - say a couple and an adult child, as there is a queen pull out sofa adjacent to a King bed.
Here are some quick facts I learned while touring the 12 acre property:
There are 75 total rooms
The historic Barbadian exterior architecture will never change as they are one of the original hotels located on the waters edge, with the interior will always be fresh and updated
Children are considered full fare at age 13
Children 6-12 pay 50% for dining from the adult menu and those 5 and under eat for free
All rooms can be connecting. Families of five or six can be accommodated in two rooms that connect inside (floors 1 and 2) or balcony connections (top floor). The second room can be offered at a discounted rate for families with adjoining rooms.
Bonus family fact! If a family of five has a very young child, it is possible to book one Beachfront Suite and all five can stay in the same room as the hotel will gladly add an extra cot. The extra space makes this possible, and of course save substantial amount of money compared to booking two adjoining rooms. Have me make this request for you - I am here to get you the room or suite that is best for your needs.
The Fairmont Royal Pavilion is able to host exclusive beach events with private catered beach bbq, bar and music. Let’s plan a corporate incentive trip together - this would be the perfect place to celebrate reaching a milestone at your company.
Beachfront Suites are the way to go if you enjoy daily afternoon tea and butler service. Need a dinner reservation made off-site? Your butler will happily facilitate this. Want to book an intimate beach dinner for two? That can be arranged. From booking a catamaran excursion, island tour or tickets to a local food tour, your butler is only a phone call away. Only Beachfront Suites have butler service and can make your vision of the ideal vacation a reality.
A room selection tip from Jakki! Book a Beachfront Suite in the North building. This section of their 1 km long beach area is quieter, the furthest away from the hotel restaurants and Beach Club and will feel the more secluded. Find yourself relaxing here under a large white umbrella on cushioned beach loungers. I can see you reading the day away or catching up with old friends here for the magnificent sunsets the west coast of Barbados is known for.
One thing I learned that quite possibly says it all about the Fairmont Royal Pavilion is that of their over 200 staff, more than 50% of them have been employed at the hotel for over 15 years. That spoke volumes to me. This is a great place to work. Staff are treated well and enjoy a long tenure, you will be extremely well cared for when staying here.
This is not the place for you if you’re looking for on-site water parks/playgrounds for families and a bustling atmosphere. There is one pool, so if you’d want a complex of pools - let’s look at another property together. There is also no swim up bar or kids only area. The main demographic here is couples ages 35+ although I did see some children and teenagers during our visit.
